Relationship marketing IS the whole field of marketing. If you learn nothing else about internet marketing, be sure that you develop a strong sense of how important relationships are to your success.
When I first discovered affiliate marketing, I was totally intrigued by the benefit which said “no customer service necessary”. At the time, I was pretty burned out with the public having worked with this entity for my whole work life. What I have come to realize is that customer service IS essential to an affiliate marketing business.
It can take much longer and be more difficult online to develop the relationships that are so essential to one’s success.
There are many types of relationships you will need to nurture to assure your long-term success. You will form these relationships by participating in forums and web 2.0 communities, posting to blogs, etc., establishing and publishing a good, content-rich newsletter, recommending products that have value and building your reputation by not ever recommending junk products.
Seek out people who are ahead of where you are in terms of knowledge and/or success. You will be amazed at how the community of online marketers are willing to mentor and guide you. Just remember always that relationships are reciprocal so be sure that you don’t just “use” these friends, customers, and mentors.
Even if you have less knowledge or other resources, you can contribute in terms of acknowledgement of their successes and encouragement of their ventures. But the most important thing you can do is to “pay it forward”. As you become more successful, pass along the kindnesses that were extended to you to other new marketers who are where you are now…desparately trying to put it all together to build their future.
Nothing is more important to your success than the relationships you build on your journey forward.

I’d go as far as saying relationships are what make the world go round. Online, offline business relationships, personal relationships - without them we’d stumble to a standstill. Good posts Maggie.
